Just a short blog to say how much I've appreciated all your co-operation and hospitality whenever I've had occasion to visit Lister Steps. Being one half of the Tuebrook Explored team we've enjoyed many positive meetings and experiences with Lister Steps, and in relation to this, we're thankful for the opportunity of gaining access to the former Lister Drive Library to film inside the building this past year or so, and thanks for the coffee and biscuits too! It's also been a privilege to contribute in a small way to outside projects in relation to Lister Steps, such as working alongside LIPA students to produce a play and documentary film late last year outlining local people's hopes and aspirations for the former Lister Drive Library...incidentally, being asked to write and perform a poem in front of such a large audience at Lister Steps that night was scary, but fulfilling at the same time!
As someone who regularly used Lister Drive Library from a teenager in the '70's right up to its closure around 2006 I've got to say that I sure do miss the place, and can only hope that this iconic building is eventually re-opened as it will surely enhance local people's lives in a big way, as it did me for so many years.
The work you all do at Lister Steps deserves the highest recognition, and furthermore, your sterling work in trying to gain the funds to convert the building into a Community Hub with ultra-modern facilities is both awe-inspiring and inspirational. Let's hope you can succeed in this quest. Thanks for all the great work you're doing at Lister Steps, and let's hope your positive example can inspire local people to get involved and play a leading part themselves as the fund-raising campaign and future plans for renovation progress.
