Dot Holden shared a wonderful memory on our Facebook page regarding these 'For Detention of Book' tokens.
"I had to return a book that my sister had taken out before the Summer holidays. She then lent it to a friend who took it home with her. By the time we got it back several months had passed and she refused to take it back herself. I duly waited in line at the Library returns desk and the Librarian took a look at the date it was supposed to be back and then pulled off almost a whole roll of the 1p tickets tutting all the time. People in the queue kept looking over and I felt like saying it wasn't my book, I was just returning it. I had hardly any change out of the money Mum had given me, she wasn't pleased at all!"
