We are lucky to be working with Dr Oriel Prizeman from The Welsh School of Architecture at the University of Cardiff. Dr Prizeman is a specialist in Carnegie Libraries and is using her knowledge to support the project. Dr Prizeman visited us this week to carry out a 3D digital survey of the building. The survey can be used in a number of ways and we hope to use it as a framework to 'stitch' on historic photographs to create a historic 3D 'fly-through' of the building.

Our Spring newsletter is out now! http://eepurl.com/blg4TP
When we visited the building last week we were very sad to see the level of vandalism that has occurred on site since the holding works. Both the front and rear door tins had been pulled in an attempt to gain access to the building, the bricked up rear doorway had been damaged allowing access into the building (fire risk) and the bricks used to smash down all of the new plastic guttering (in place as a temporary measure to ensure water doesn't get into the building and cause further damage). Further damage includes boards removed from windows, the only pane of glass to remain in situ being smashed by a brick and fires started in the garden. Sadly pigeons are now back in the building after only being evicted in January!
Two of our talented volunteers responded immediately and fixed the door tins to prevent anyone from gaining access. Liverpool City Council have been supportive and are attending the site to further board up windows and evacuate the pigeons and our local Community Police Officers visited the site to offer advice and support which will be ongoing. We are looking into additional security measures at the site in addition to the alarm already in place. These include CCTV and increased site visits. We were overwhelmed by the support and well wishes from the local community when they heard the news. We are hopeful that people will keep an eye on the building for us and report any activity or damage to the Police on 101. Any vandalism to the building is a heritage crime and the Tuebrook community take this very seriously-we love the building and we are excited about its future. The team were out and about at Tuebrook Market this morning chatting to the local community about our plans to create a community hub. If you missed us you can still take part! We have an online version of the survey available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/H8YFMCF which only takes a couple of minutes to complete. Alternatively you can contact us and we can arrange to phone you and ask you the questions verbally or request we send you a paper copy to complete. We are really keen to hear your thoughts so please get involved.
Big thanks to Eddie Cotton, Carol Sung and Kelly Richards for their time. We are excited that the project has attracted some media interest recently. We had a full page spread in the Liverpool Echo: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/nostalgia/pictures-historic-liverpool-library-unearthed-8888093 Our Heritage Development Officer Kerry and our project Volunteer Alison co-wrote a brief introduction to the project which was featured in Volume 6 of the online architecture journal EDGEcondition: http://www.edgecondition.net/vol-6-heritage.html And our quest to find a Design Team was covered in Architects Journal: http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/competitions/hunt-begins-for-carnegie-community-hub-architect/8678925.article We are very excited to announce that Tony Conception, the next Lord Mayor of Liverpool, has chosen Lister Steps as one of his three nominated charities. We are really looking forward to working with Tony to raise the profile of, and money for, Lister Steps and Tony's other two charities.
