As one of the Lord Mayor's charities we are hosting a number of exciting events to raise funds. You can join the Lord Mayor for afternoon tea at the Town Hall or sponsor a star to be hung on the Town Hall Christmas Tree. Lister Steps are hosting our very own fundraising event in January to secure funds to support our bid to develop the former Lister Drive Library. Join us for a delicious scouse supper, a fun talk by Ken Pye and community spirit.

Yesterday we attended a heritage conference hosted by the Maritime Heritage Trust at the Rum Warehouse, Stanley Dock. The conference included a number of keynote talks, workshops and sessions on 'how to do it' and 'tools for success'. Although the conference was primarily aimed at 'industrial' heritage sites and projects, speakers shared insights that apply to all forms of heritage. We enjoyed meeting other community groups who are passionate about saving their heritage and hearing from groups that have run successful projects (and had lessons to share!).
Here are the important lessons we learned: Heritage projects must build loyalty to be a success Recognise project achievements and celebrate successes Young people are vital to the future of heritage What is the story of our heritage? Who is part of the story? How can we encourage people to be part of the story moving forward? How can we make it relevant to others? What part of the heritage story to people value? Positive word of mouth is the best publicity Make a good impression Make sure your heritage is sustainable Be famous for something-worlds best home made flapjack, eating and drinking with the best views in the world...... Do you have any advice or suggestions to add? Please leave a comment after the post :) |
